Just Add More to the List

So, I spent some time at the camp again this past weekend. While I did get a couple of things done, more got added to the list.

In my previous post, I mentioned a “road” on the property that needed to be trimmed back for adequate vehicle passage. I got the chainsaw out and checked the gas, and that’s when the problems started. Less than two minutes into my project and the fuel cap on the chainsaw broke in half. That was more than a little disappointing. No fuel cap means no use of the chainsaw. Fortunately, I had my pole saw. Imagine a weed eater but without the trimmer head that spins, there is a miniature chainsaw. I can cut limbs up to about 10’ off the ground. I had to limp through using the pole saw. I was not aware that the chain on that saw also needed to be replaced. Through periodic use, the chain has stretched to the point that there is no more adjustment room on the bar to tighten the chain. Despite the chain coming off the bar a few times, I was able to get most of the limbs and brush knocked back enough.

The next day I ordered a replacement fuel cap for my chainsaw. That cap arrived in the mail quickly and I got it put on today. Hopefully, sometime this week, I’ll be getting a replacement chain for the pole saw. I plan to do the rest of the cleanup on my next trip to the camp.

The deer stand was checked, and everything is just as it should be. When the weather cools, I will need to take the Buddy heater out there but that’s about it.

Due to some other obligations, I did not get to spend any time cleaning out the barn. On my next trip I plan to spend at least a couple of hours bagging and loading things to throw away on my way back home.

On the bright side, my wonderful assistant (the beautiful and amazing Mrs. Thrive) picked up a few bags of deer corn, a bag of food plot seed, and some mineral salt for the hunting spots. I was able to do some food plot work after we spent a couple of hours fishing in the small pond Saturday morning. The fish in the pond aren’t nearly large enough to be added to the food options, but at least they provide some recreation.

Although not much of my to-do list got done, it was an enjoyable weekend. We got to spend some time one night out by the fire pit relaxing.

As I’ve thought of various things that needed to get done (both at home and at the camp) I added them to my ever-growing list. I’m a project guy so lists help me keep track of what I need to do. The list never ends.

Don’t just prepare. Prepare to thrive.
