Some Good Progress

This past Saturday, I was able to work on cleaning out the barn for a couple of hours. That may not sound like much time, but when you have an extra set of hands (a close friend that is also a worker) that two hours equals about four hours of productivity. We were able to fill a 16’ trailer with all kinds of trash items. This included everything from old paint and wood stain cans to scrap wood that was piled up for a couple of years, and torn tarps to solidified bags of concrete mix. All in all, the vast majority of the barn was cleaned out. There are just a few mores things to go through to sort out smaller items that don’t really have anywhere else to be stored at the moment. I’d say about 80% of the barn cleanup is completed, all in about two hours of work. From here on out, I plan to keep the barn free and clear and only use it for storage while I’m actually out there.

I didn’t get to work on the “road” on this trip. I was trying to make it a shorter trip, so I had to pick one thing to work on. I haven’t been able to get a new chain for the pole saw so I didn’t want to work on something I could only partially complete. I’d rather devote time and equipment to completing the limb/brush cleanup in one trip.

I poured and spread out another 50-pound bag of deer corn. The mineral salts I put out a week ago did not need any added. The seeds from last weekend will just take time to grow (if we ever get any rain).

I’ve started another side project that I can work on when I have a few minutes at a time. I’ve broken down my prepping into separate categories and made a list for each. Each list includes items and amounts I’d like to have on hand. Other lists are “to-do” lists for each category. This will allow me to track progress and also develop an inventory along the way.

The camping gear still needs to be reviewed. I’ll try to do that during the evenings this week.

If I keep this pace up, I’ll have my projects knocked out in relatively short order.

Don’t just prepare. Prepare to thrive.
